Higher Purpose

It has been a couple of hard weeks for me do to the orientation for a  new job  and dealing with news of health issues in my family.  During this time of emotional ups and down, I have found myself struggling with what I eat and also dealing with a small amount of depression.  This scenario comes upon  all of us from time to time.  My circumstances are no different from the next person.  The more I tried to eat correctly, the more I failed.  After a couple of days of this I realized I was dealing with a spiritual issue and I needed to take a different approach.  I then was able to evaluate my circumstances.  I talked to the Lord and recognized what it was that needed to change in my behavior.  It will be no surprise to some of you that by the next day, my life was more peaceful.  Once I dealt with the real issues, I was able to resist the so called "eating out of emotion" that you hear so many refer to.

We all fill that empty space in  our lives with something.  Some emptiness is filled with food or maybe shopping, drinking, activities, the list goes on...  but a relationship with Jesus Christ is the only real fulfilment for this empty space that we all experience.  This emptiness needs to be filled with TRUTH, that truth is Jesus.

I love the song  Voice of Truth  by Casting Crowns.  "..with all the voices calling out to me, I choose to listen to the voice of truth".

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Communication As I See It
We are living in a time where technology is everywhere.  It is coming at us so fast that we cannot even keep up with the newest gadgets that seem to be coming out in the stores every month.  We are truly living in an exciting age.  I do not believe my parents would have ever thought we could have come so far in such a short time.  (Hannna- Barbera premiered The Jetsons in 1962  the first family to view a big-screen home entertainment system). http://cartoonsrapbook.com/

1950's Diner

Today, we sit in the comfort of our own homes to talk to people across the world through Skype.   As much as I enjoy speaking to my son in another part of the world I do believe there is a down side to all the technology that is available to us today.

The technology age has changed the way we communicate with one another.  Many people are affected by this change and it can be seen in such areas as: the family dinner around the table, the quality in communication between parents and their children (children in one room with their technology and parents in another area of the house with their technology), husbands and wives also struggle to find time to listen to one another, even family holidays are not above being affected.  Families gather together only to have children on I-pods, laptop computers or cell phones. The scenes of the Norman Rockwell days have long passed for some families.

There was a time when the local coffee shop was the gathering place for communication on local events.  Today the local coffee shops are bigger then ever. Upon entering, the scene always seems to be the same. People relaxing in an over sized chair, often alone, sipping on their choice of coffee as they communicate on their choice of technology. Some are able to balance family life with the technology available but I would say that most of us struggle.

This last weekend I attended a Women's Conference.  As I listened to these women that I had never met before, there seemed to be a common thread that tied them together.  Isolation and a sense of feeling alone was the common thread.  We have forgotten how to communicate with one another.  Our world has given us instant communication and unfortunately our news broadcasts have given us a fear of reaching out to others.  What I have come to realize through the many contacts that I have encountered over the years is  - when you are considering good health you cannot separate body, soul and mind.  One area affects the others.  When I share with others through their blogs concerning weight they often express frustrations that would fall under the category of mind and soul.   I believe  that  the mind and soul must also be considered when addressing good health.

This page is dedicated to encouraging you in your journey to be healthier by also considering the truths that affect your whole being.
